William Henry Bill Gates

Lahir pada tanggal 28 Oktober 1955. Saat berumur 12 tahun, lewat pemograman sederhana sosok ini sudah bisa mengembangkan game Tic Tac Toe yang memungkinkan pemain bisa bermain melawan komputer. Pada umur 20 tahun (1975), yaitu saat tahun keduanya di Harvard University, dia mengembangkan sebuah algoritma ‘Pancake Sorting’ sebagai salah satu solusi dari serangkaian masalah pemograman yang belum terpecahkan. Saat di Harvard, Gates tidak begitu tertarik dengan kuliah, ia malah menghabiskan banyak waktunya untuk mengutak-atik komputer milik universitas.


Pada tahun berikutnya, MITS Altair 8800, sebuah komputer portabel kuno dengan CPU Intel 8080 mulai populer. Gates memandang ini sebagai sebuah kesempatan untuk mengembangkan software bagi komputer tersebut, yaitu Altair BASIC (yang kemudian dikenal sebagai Microsoft BASIC). Akhirnya, bersama Paul Allen, Bill Gates mendirikan Micro-soft, sebuah usaha kecil-kecilan perangkat lunak bagi komputer. Seiring berjalannya waktu, nama “Micro-soft” berubah menjadi “Microsoft” dan tumbuh menjadi perusahaan software raksasa yang memproduksi berbagai software esensial seperti Windows dan Ms Office. Microsoft saat ini telah berhasil mengorbitkan Bill Gates sebagai orang terkaya nomor 1 versi Forbes.
